Welcome to SSU: Skate Sharpening University!

David Carlson/Karlsson of Snipers Skate Sharpening in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada started this Group in April of 2015. 

We are a Group of 1423 dedicated Pro Shop Owners, Equipment Managers, Skate Technicians and Parents who discuss better ways to run our businesses and share information on the latest skate technology. Many of our Members are Master Skate Sharpeners and have Pro-experience in the NHL and European Hockey. 

Mr. Wally Tatomir, Mr. John Doolan and Mr. Barrie Stafford (retired NHL Head Equipment Managers with CAROLINA HURRICANES, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS and the OILERS, respectively).

We have Members as close as Calgary, Alberta and as far away as Malmo, Sweden. In fact, we have Members who are the Head Equipment Managers for the Swedish and Finnish Junior Hockey Teams. I am always curious to know what other equipment managers and skate technicians are recommending to their customers and players so that Snipers Skate Sharpening will be on the cutting-edge of the Industry.

What do we discuss?

• selecting the optimal blade hollow and profile;
• hot or trending products eg. replacement blade runners, new steel, etc.
• the proper way to rivet a skate---where do we put the copper and steel rivets;

• different contouring systems and skate sharpening machines;
• what are other Proshops recommending to their customers, etcetera.

• honing and skate sharpening techniques;
• business-related topics eq. POS, marketing your business, social media, accounting principles and software, etc.
• reviews and recommendations on sharpening/grinding wheels and accessories;
• just about everything else you can imagine. We have a group of very knowledgeable & professional Members.
• We will outperform our competition because we have access to vital information that will benefit our customers and our players. All of us are dedicated to being the best at what we do!
